In Gödöllö Hungary the CONVERGE project are inviting you to a workshop the 27th of June to share learnings from our project and invite you to participate.

The CONVERGE project is an interdisciplinary research project funded by the European Union. The Natural Step International is one of the nine partners in the project.

Timezone: Etc/GMT+1

This intensive 3-day practical course is geared towards experienced sustainability professionals, managers, analysts, academics, and consultants who want to deepen their learning, refine their application of The Framework for Sustainable Development and enhance their ability to integrate sustainability meaningfully in organizations.

The Natural Step Sustainability Learning Programs are
designed using a dialogue education approach to learning
design and facilitation. You will actively engage in hands-on,
participatory learning tasks that will help you dive into the
content, apply it to real situations, and prepare to transfer
what you learn to your business, community, or organization.

Course Structure

The course is build upon 3 modules:

the Application Module.

The first two days (October 10-11th) are focused on the Science Module and the Change Management module. Then you will return home and conduct an assignment. Then we will meet a couple of months later for a one day follow-up (December 14th) where we share experiences and learning.

Participants should plan to spend somewhere between 2-4 days in total on the assignment, over the 8 week period between the first course event and the second. During the assignment you will be given a coaching session with an Advisor from the Natural Step.

Course objectives

After this course you will be able to:

Plan for how to mobilise an organisation to act strategically towards sustainability. This means that you will be boosted with tools and know-how around how to:

assess an organisation's strenghts and weaknesses in terms of sustainability culture, leadership, products and services, operations, communication and governance;

create a sense of urgency and opportunity around sustainability;

address objections; and,

explain what the Framework can offer

Have confidence in the natural and social science basis of sustainability and the strategic sustainable development framework.

After the course you will have:

Practiced carrying through a sustainability assessment using the sustainability principles

Course facilitators

The course will be taught and facilitated by experienced Senior Advisors from The Natural Step.

Course participants

Sustainability for Leaders A Transformative Approach to Sustainability Thinking, Strategy and Results (Stockholm)

Start: Apr 24 2012 - 8:30am

End: Apr 25 2012 - 5:00pm

Timezone: Europe/Stockholm

Welcome to a 2 day Learning Journey around strategic sustainability planning!

You can tell somebody the rules of chess, but that doesn’t make them a chess player and certainly not a master. They need to play in order to develop a full understanding of the strategies that can be deployed.”

Karl-Henrik Robert, TNS Founder and Blue Planet Prize Winner

Learning Objectives

Gain a clear understanding of sustainability based on sound science and systems thinking.

Achieve a solid foundation in The Natural Step Framework, its rational and how to apply it to organizations and complex sustainability issues.

Attain confidence in communicating core concepts of strategic sustainable development.

Learn to plan for success in complex systems by use of backcasting.

While this course provides a solid grounding in core concepts, the focus of the workshop is on participation and practical experience with plenty of opportunities for dialogue and hands-on application.

Course Participants

The workshop is open to anyone who wants to be a leader in the change toward a sustainable society. Past participants include:

Internal company and SME champions

Entrepreneurs

Municipal employees and elected officials

Professors and researchers

Consultants

We encourage participation from a wide range of sectors and perspectives, leading to a richer dialogue and peer learning, simulating the cross-sectoral approach needed to take a systems approach to sustainable development.

Course Fees and Registration

Purpose

To train, empower, and network a group of 30 MBA students and recent graduates in accelerating Alberta’s shift to sustainability and prosperity through a five-day intensive Bootcamp experience.

Summary

Take your MBA skills to the next level by applying your strategy, project management, sales, marketing, negotiation, and facilitation learning to the sustainability field through a week of applied exercises, simulations, and live case studies. Be inspired by a faculty of national sustainability leaders and authors. Hone your skills through practical real-life cases and presentations of your findings to corporations seeking solutions to complex sustainability challenges.

You will be whipped into sustainability shape through an intense five-day Bootcamp, and will continue with coaching and team touch-points over the following four months. After the Bootcamp, you will have access to coaching from our expert advisory team who work with clients such as Nike, Pratt & Whitney Canada, and Research in Motion (RIM).

Learning Outcomes

The MBA Sustainability Leadership Bootcamp is about more than gaining theoretical knowledge—it’s about developing the skills, attitudes, and knowledge required to be effective sustainability change agents. At the end of the Bootcamp, you will have:

Practised capturing the business value of sustainability through live case studies

Built a robust toolkit of facilitation techniques to engage stakeholders, colleagues, and leaders

Purpose

To train, empower, and network a group of 30 MBA students and recent graduates in accelerating Ontario’s shift to sustainability and prosperity through a five-day intensive Bootcamp experience.

As part of its Sustainability Transition Lab program and with the support of the Alberta Real Estate Foundation, The Natural Step Canada is hosting an experiment in Edmonton this fall.

Our mission: to name what the dream is for our city and our neighbourhoods and make the impossible possible.

Are you aged 18-30 (give or take) and working (paid or unpaid) to make your neighbourhood and city better?

This is an invitation to young people in the Edmonton area to declare what the “impossibly awesome” neighbourhood looks and feels like. What is it for? Who does it serve? How does it operate? What are the characteristics of a neighbourhood that meets the needs of today and tomorrow? What will our social, energy, economic, ecological, cultural, and government systems look like?

System change requires the participation of a wide range of perspectives and values. Join us to share yours and declare Edmonton’s future.

Who will attend?

We are inviting individuals between 18-30 who value:

Generating new ideas for our neighbourhoods and communities

Getting to know Edmonton’s innovative and passionate leaders

Creating networks of diverse people who share your passion for this city

Young professionals, artists, activists, city staff, city builders, trades, contractors, teachers, students, educational institutions… anyone who is interested in making neighbourhoods that serve our needs now and into the future is welcome to join us for this experiment.

When and where will it take place?

The Old Timer's Cabin
9430 - 99 Street NW (Scona Rd) (map)
October 24, 2012
9:00am - 4:00 pm

What to bring

Willingness to share your wisdom, networks, and experience

Commitment to support the dreams of youth

Desire to work with people of various perspectives

Comfort in creating a new path together

Our Team

In this experiment, you will be hosted by two experienced sustainability practitioners:

As part of its Sustainability Transition Lab program and with the support of the Alberta Real Estate Foundation, The Natural Step Canada is hosting an experiment in Edmonton this fall.

Prior to this workshop, Edmonton youth aged 18-30 will gather to declare what the “impossible” neighbourhood looks and feels like. It will take a whole city to respond to the youth declaration of the impossible neighbourhood. You share this dream and you believe the impossible is possible. You believe that young and old must work together to make it happen. You believe that people of various walks of life and perspectives can work together. You are openly influenced by the dreams of youth and accept the challenge to be responsible for the consequences of today’s actions.

Join us and be a part of meeting that challenge. Register for Workshop ll and help advance the youth declaration of the impossible neighbourhood.

Who will attend?

Regardless of generation, we are inviting those who value:

Generating new ideas for our neighbourhoods and communities

Getting to know Edmonton’s innovative and passionate leaders

Creating networks of diverse people who share your passion for this city

Professionals, artists, activists, city staff, city builders, trades, contractors, teachers, students, educational institutions… anyone who is interested in making neighbourhoods that serve our needs now and into the future is welcome to join us for this experiment.
